FFVL Federal Certificates

Here is the description provided by the French Free Flight Federation (FFVL):

Training athletes and coaches is a top priority for the federation, in addition to a public service mission delegated by the Ministry of Sports.

No matter the discipline, free flight or gliding cannot be improvised! Everyone’s safety and the long-term future of our sports depend on it.

From discovery to independent practice, each discipline has established a standard progression path, marked by certifications, and outlined in the various “progression passports.”

“After completing the first cycle and earning the initial pilot certificate, the pilot certificate attests to sufficient skills to gather the information needed to determine whether or not to fly, depending on the site and conditions. These skills must
enable the pilot to safely manage their flight on-site in moderate weather conditions and to control the flight dynamically (blue level of the progression). It validates the second cycle and allows you to advance to the final one, the third cycle (brown level of the progression).”

• The initial certification: Cycle No. 1

demonstrates the ability to fly unaided in calm conditions at a familiar site using appropriate equipment.
This certification is issued by your instructor and covers the practical and theoretical skills acquired up to the green level of the progression. It is certified by the DTE.

IMPORTANT: You must have obtained your initial certification before taking the next one. 

• Pilot's License: Cycle 2. ( Must have the initial license):

It is the first internationally recognized level. It is open to FFVL license holders aged 14 and older.

We strongly encourage you to get one so you can go flying without a flight instructor in France and abroad (Switzerland, etc.)!

• The Advanced Pilot Certificate: Cycle No. 3. (Must have a Pilot's License):

Be able to independently analyze and interpret weather conditions in order to fly (cross-country flight). This is open to FFVL members aged 16 and older.

This certification qualifies you to participate in competitions and federal qualification exams: club guide, tandem flight qualifications, winch operator, federal instructor certification, DEJEPS, etc.
